#4 The Last Drop – Interactions with the public about ecology

How public was emotionally touched

The audience was moved by both stations differently.

In the first station (performance), the audience was deeply involved in issues related to sustainability and the environment, as well as the tragic scenario that, for many of them, was already inevitable. Silence was also a signal and a strong response to contact with the performance.

In the second station, they were impressed with the information but also with an immersive atmosphere, as well as the impact and consumption of water of just a couple of people, during a year. Some people took a closer look and fiddled with the photos, reflecting on their water consumption actions and how, specifically in Germany, water is an abundant resource in the eyes of its citizens, and compared it to the existence of drought in countries not so far away, such as Portugal.

Students, teachers and other spectators, expressed their feelings and reflections after the performance and the installation. The impact and future of water management is a looming problem.

interactions with the public on sustainability-related topics

The process was influenced by research on the subject of water and interviews with experts. In turn, the audio-recorded questionnaire was integrated into the video and helped to conceive the art object in terms of its conceptual basis.

The recovery of previous projects that have been further developed here (the “Água lda” installation and the result of “Water”, this last one, part of the Europeficiton Academy project) have helped to enrich and deepen the theme, and much remains to be discussed; whether in the continuation and future presentation of this result, or in other artistic and educational solutions that relate to the theme.

Pollution, resources, collective responsibility, world level changes, are on the top of the worries and intents to promote reflection, dialogue and inquietation on environment, sustainability, social, economical and geopolitical perspectives (as the case of Spain and Portugal -where the biggest rivers are shared).

Participation and provocation among young people, teachers and adults are the central focus of this art object, which is properly framed within the Le Cake project and its objectives.
